Adella Krall’s positive outlook, compassion for others, and natural curiosity (she was a librarian) have inspired the function and look of the new Krall Centre 36-bed outpatient unit. The unit, which is currently undergoing seismic upgrading, will be located on the sixth floor of VGH’s Centennial Pavilion and open in 2005. It will include two lounges – one set up as a library – as well as an expanded kitchen area.

The library will include reference books, fiction, and books for art lovers. Special emphasis will be placed on lighting, colors, cabinetry, and a warm, comfortable environment.

The entertainment lounge will be dedicated to Sharon O'Brien, and funded by the annual Sharon O'Brien golf tournament. It will include a big screen TV, dvd, and game player.

The patient and family kitchen / refreshment area will be dedicated to and funded by the Jim Salamon golftournament. Coffee, tea, sandwiches and snacks will be available here. The kitchen will be fully equipped with cabinets, a dishwasher, coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven, and refrigerator. Volunteering her time and a design skills to the space will be none-other than the Home & GardenNetwork’s Sarah Richardson – interior designer and host of the show Room Service. In addition to support from the Krall Family, other fundraising events, supported by volunters and staff from the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, have also contributed significant amounts to the development of the Centre.
